There are a lot of chemicals in all painting products. Be proactive for the sake of your health. Learn how to protect you and your family from all the chemicals that are involved with painting.

Welcome to painting. A world of chemicals. A world of beautiful finishes that make your guests awe in amazement. Does the process need to cause our bodies harm? It is questionable and you should take care. Let me help you learn a couple tricks that will become second nature.
There Is Protective Gear That You Want
I wish painting products required a license. They can be really harmful. To our bodies as well as our environment. Do not fear. You can be conscious about this devastation.
In nearly all latex paints there are V.O.C's (Volatile Organic Compounds) you can look at the back of the can snd see the gram per gallon. Normal paints contain 50 grams per gallon. The word Organic is not to be confused. It is a Volatile compound people! Not only does this outgas while you are painting, it will outgas throughout the life expectancy of your paint job. It is not a one time experience. It can outages for over 20 years.
The worst part, on the back of all the cans there is also a danger warning. May cause birth defects. Come on! Do I have your attention yet?
Rest Assured
Here you go friends. There are a couple habits that we can all use in order to protect our homes and bodies. Let's start simple and work our way to the thorougher methods.
First and farmost you can start with wearing gloves. Automotive glove! Buy them here https://www.amazon.com/AMMEX-GWON48100-BX-Nitrile-Gloveworks-Disposable/dp/B00MGSGN46/ref=asc_df_B00MGSGN46/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198057063995&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9464686475358856480&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1020859&hvtargid=pla-317871856947&psc=1 Wearing long sleeves and pants to ensure that you do not get any paint on your skin is supper important. I suggest that you designate some old clothes to painting. Better yet, get a cute pair of overalls. Buy an outfit that you like and use it just for your DIY projects. In my experience, if you like the clothes you are going to wear for the project, then you will actually wear them.

Go A Step Further
Especially when you are using stains or any spray paints.
Get a face mask that will protect you from Petra chemicals. Not just a dust mask. Air born pollutants are a factor that can lead to many health defect.
Open your windows and use fans to move the air through your space. If it is cold outside then you will need to turn the heat up. Keeping the space you are painting well ventilated is vital. Not only will moving the air keep you safe from toxins, it will also help your room not get as humid, allowing for your paint to dry faster.
Mask Off The Space
When you want to keep pets and kids out of the room you are painting, use some plastic to close your space off. Grab some tape and a ladder. Tape your plastic to the ceiling and to the adjoining walls. Take a knife and cut a slit in your plastic so that you can access the space. You can buy a nifty little zipper and make yourself a temporary door.
I normally buy a 2 pack from ZIP WALL. Here is a link https://www.amazon.com/ZipWall-2-Pack-Heavy-Duty-Barriers-HDAZ2/dp/B0022NHLEQ I also made you a video so that you can see how to use the zipper. Just click the hashtag #zipperdoor
